Italian

Italian, a Romance language, is one of the most beautiful languages in the world. It is spoken by about 70 million people as a mother tongue, and about 50 million as a second or learned language. In the US, most Italian speakers are located on the Eastern Seaboard, with sizable numbers in the Mid-West. From New York City and Boston, to Chicago and Miami, Italian flourishes as a highly spoken and sought after language. It is also prevalent in several Canadian cities, and its roots emanate from Latin. Its lingua consists of several regional dialects, from Tuscan and Sicilian, to Neapolitan and Sardinian. It was Dante who fused several dialects to create the purest form of the Italian language, which is still in existence today.
